Not exactly face to face, but I had the pleasure of recreating the Christian Cowen/Cardi B Invasion of Privacy Album Cover Blazer Dress. I was asked by a client if I could make this for a celebrity party she was invited to. When she sent me the picture, I originally thought no way, I’ve never made a blazer before! But after a split second, I came to my senses and agreed I could deliver for her.
As soon as the deal was sealed, I ordered the materials and started studying. It took several hours studying blazers online, in person, and on YouTube. I’m ready! The large checkers I made by cutting 16 black and white 8×8 squares. I always cut more than I need, that’s room for error. I then drafted a pattern and got to work! This blazer was an exciting challenge for me. I came into some bumps and stayed up diligently until it was mastered. Once the blazer was complete, I sent my client the photo.
DUNNN DUNN DUNNN as I wait for her response. She was beyond thrilled and said, and I quote: “Omg!!!!!!!!!!! You’re making me cry!!!!!! Girl I am going to be lit!!!!!” I literally danced with a smile from ear to ear. When I bring that kind of excitement to clients I get a sense of euphoria, a sense of purpose.
Who knows? Maybe one day Cardi B will actually wear one of MY designs. What do you beauties think of it?
